NEHN? / NEN? -

MHD (Kerr) MHD (Galeev) MHD (Graham)
K8017 J XKB Monument 1 XLM Column 1
yu:<NEN:ne> <yu:NEN>.ne <yu:NEN>.ne
· The nickname is taken (slightly adapted) from MHD.
· There are only 3 hits in MHD for “blcodes contains HT3” (2026-02-23), all three given above as examples. Extending the search to “All - Blocks” doesn’t yield additional hits.
· XKB = Xkombec and XLM = Xcalumkin are both in modern-day Campeche. The modern Mayan language spoken in Campeche today is Yucatec. A very large number of sites which begin with “X + <consonant>” are from either the state of Campeche or Yucatan, making XKB and XLM two Late Classic / Yucatec sites. Indeed, MHD gives the region of origin of all three as “Northern”.
· All three contexts make a reading of yunen not implausible, though the strongest context is probably K8017. IMO, the other two have a few uncertain readings in their respective contexts, causing the reading of yunen to be slightly more uncertain than in the case of K8017 J. However, the relative confidence of the K8017 reading and the fact that the other two have an “identical” glyph composition lend support to the reading of yunen for the other two as well.
· MHD commits to a reading of NEHN? / NEN? (with question mark to indicate some doubt) = “mirror” whereas Bonn doesn’t give a reading at all – neither pronunciation nor meaning (2026-02-23). It seems to me to be possible to also treat this glyph as of unknown meaning, but read NEHN, used here as a rebus to write (y)unen. My hesitation to assign the meaning of “mirror” comes from the lack of a context where it might mean “mirror”, as all three known contexts are for yunen.
