CMGG entry for syllabogram su

Variant: wood property

MC                   K&H = JM

TOK.p13.r4.c2

·    Subvariants (2):

o A. Flint:

§ Both ends: 3-4 longish, parallel ticks.

§ Middle: slightly curved horizontal band, with two touching dots on the upper side (resembling a wood property marker, horizontally oriented).

o B. Boulder - similar to the flint form but:

§ Rotated 90 degree clockwise, resulting in the “wood property marker” being vertically oriented.

§ One axis stretched (or the other squashed, depending on how you want to look at it), resulting in a “boulder outline” (= a square with rounded corners).

§ A bold ceiling.

·    Do not confuse the flint variant of su with te, which also has “whiskers” (the parallel ticks).

o te has “whiskers” in one half only, whereas su has “whiskers” at both the extremities.

o The “whiskers” of te consist of only two ticks (wherever there are “whiskers” present), while the “whiskers” of su consist of more than two ticks.

·    Do not confuse the boulder variant of su with the full variant of sa:

o sa has two symmetrically placed “combs” with a double vertical band between them whereas su has only a single vertical band separating the two halves with “whiskers” (which only superficially resemble the combs of sa).

o sa has tiny dots at the end of each tooth of the comb whereas su has no dots of any kind at the end of each tick (tiny or otherwise).

o sa has no dots associated with the double vertical bands down the middle whereas su has two touching dots on one side of the single vertical band (= the wood property marker) .
